Hi my name is mike and I own a 2003 discovery 2, we got 2 feet of snow recently and I thought it would be a good time to try out the hdc. So i put the truck in low range and hit the hdc button. It just keeps blinking and making a loud beeping noise and does not activate any suggestions and such. I take my foot off the brakes and the car speeds up down the hill well over 9 km/h

Sounds like either a) HDC is having issues, or b) you were not in Low Range as you may have thought, if in Neutral it will beep at you.

Yeah it was definitly in low range, it worked maybe 1 week ago. The light on the dash blinks and that sort of thing. I am just wondering if anyone has ever had something similar happen or if this is something unique. The other thing is if it is broken is it even worth getting fixed, I just got my rover and am beginning to modify it for offroad use.

Wish I could help, I am sure if it is under warrenty I would have it fixed, but outside of warrenty it may or may not be worth it. Off road use HDC would be nice.

yea not under warranty but i might bring it to a 4x4 center see what they say. I dont get any warning lights or anything on the dash. and one other question my rover has low range but the locking diff I have heard is built into the disco 2 but land rover didnt connect it. Is it worth having it connected?

The locking diff on the D2 was there but not installed on the 99.5 to the early 2001, then the 01.5 - 03 did not have locking diffs, then in 04 the brought it back.

Is something like the locking diff worth having put in, or would it be better to get front and rear lockers?

The locking diff is always a good thing, that is why LR finally brought it back on the 04 model.

As far a front a rear lockers go, this really depends on how much you off road. If you go out 6 or less times a year I wouldn't waste the money, if you go out 2 or 3 times a month, then yes it would be worth it. My Rover is setup to play off road, but I don't have lockers yet, I have thought about it, but just can't bring myself to spend the money on something I will not use that much. I still have fun off road and go anywhere I want to.

Sorry for the late response, been on vacation... yes you can retrofit it in you 03... just buy a new transfer case, either a 00 model or an 04 model...
