Hello everyone....newbie here....we just purchased an LR3 and are enjoying it very much, except for a couple of annoying little things. We had an ML before, so we are used to the small annoyances, but Im hoping someone has run into these before on the LR3 and might be able to help. The mercedesshop forum has always been helpful and saved us lots of money!

Ok, the first, and most annoying is the alarm system. It will arm and disarm easily, but for some reason, it goes off without anyone being near it after a few minutes. Sometimes, it will go for 10 minutes after locking up, sometimes 3 or 4 hours. Also, after resetting it with remote, it might go off again after a few minutes/hours, or it might last all night. I have tried varying the superarm function as mentioned in owner's manual, but there doesnt seem to be a difference. I have set the alarm and left a window open, armed the alarm and tried to deliberately set it off waving my hand inside the cabin, but it wont go off. Im figuring its either bonnet, back hatch or door switches that are bad...but how do I narrow it down???? If anyone has had this problem, PLEASE HELP!!! I hate having the annoying car that goes off for no reason....

Second issue is a water leak my wife noticed coming from the small light console right above the rear view mirror on the headliner.....I thought it was the sunroof leaking, but after popping off the light display, we discovered water (not alot, but enough to make me concerned) closer to the windshield than to the sunroof....could it be the windshield is not sealed properly???? I dried area, and the car has been in rain since, but the area has remained dry.....I did searches regarding water leaks, and most seem to do with ac tube blockages and not in the area of my leak....

Thats it...other than the two things mentioned above, I am very pleased with the ride and power on this LR3.....thanks in advance for any help you might provide.

Do a search on water leaks. It's the sunroof drains that are clogged. Dealer Warranty.
Alarm, no clue.

Bluebird is right on. Now here is where I sound stupid, your LR3 has an alarm? Is that a factory option, or dealer installed? Mine doesn't have an alarm and I didn't even know it was an option

If you recently had the forward part of your sunroof deluged in water, it can overwhelm your sunroof drains. For instance. . . In a heavy downpour, I backed up rather quickly from a parking spot which had the nose slightly down. . . Water soaked my headliner at the top by the a pillars and the sunroof control panel. After investigating and lubricating my sunroof drains, I firmly believe that the simply combination of conditions caused the leak.

North America LR3s have a basic perimeter protection alarm. It's not an option; it's just there. That basically means... it'll only go off if you manage to open a door when the LR3 is locked with the fob. (It has no motion sensors or tilt sensors; other markets may have those, depending on the config.)

nwoods, your test mule coil LR3 might be different, of course.

Thanks

Thanks for the suggestions...I will check the sunroof....are these sunroof drains something that is DIY??? Or will I have to take to dealer to get them flushed out????

The alarm is on all LR3s i believe, and it is very annoying....My LR3 is already out of warranty, so I will check the hood pin as you suggested. I think it could be a switch problem because the car honks when arming sometimes even though all doors, hood, and hatch are securely closed......so its either a bad switch, or like someone just mentioned, its the hood pin that is not making good contact....I will let everyone know how it goes....didnt have time today because I had to go in to work and by the time I got home, wife and son had gone off to a b-day party in the LR3...I will try to check these things tomorrow.

Thanks again for the help.

Update: Water leak gone, but alarm is still skiddish

I think there might have been a blockage which caused the water leak....there have been no further problems with the leak...

But....the alarm is completely psychotic!!!!! For now, we do the lock the doors manually from the passenger side to keep the alarm for arming. I think it could be the hood pin as someone suggested earlier because we get "bonnet open" msg sometimes without any warning and without me having opened it....the message will go away on its own without manipulating the hood at all.

But, I have looked to see if I can see the pin to adjust it, but I cant seem to find how it is triggered....can someone help me locate the pin and tell me what I need to do to adjust it? The only thing I see is two latches which lock the hood down....I dont see any switches that come in contact with the hood....

Thanks in advance for any help.
