Hi, back in April I bought a 2008 Land Rover SE from a old guy who claimed to have bought it and fixed it up for his grandson! the VERY NEXY DAY is started giving me issues. I do not now what to do, it keep over heating and leaking coolant and I don't know what to do. I go through a gallon or two of coolant everyday. I know it's a slow leak somewhere right? but even if go like 50 or 60 mph it over heats! pleaseeeeeeeee help me ASAP! I live in the country and just got a new job, I NEED my car.

Sadly this sounds like it could be a major issue. Rover engines like a lot of modern cars and SUV's do not like to be overheated. You could have a blown head gasket or it could just be a leak. I would recommend taking it to a good Rover Mechanic and have it checked out. By good I do not mean the dealership.

I own 4 LR2 I currently have three of them the issues are always the same the water pump has a slight leak on the bottom of it which causes you know the leaking in the overheating and your hoses will go bad the thermostat and radiator they all start to feel around anywhere from 120 to 150 thousand miles
It’s a tedious job but it’s definitely doable the water pump usually around $30 radiator around $100 hoses could be as much as $100 thermostat you’re looking at probably 20 $30 all on eBay don’t need to buy genuine Land Rover partsJust remember this is the same motor that’s in a Volvo XC 90 same exact motor there’s plenty of videos out there to do the work also the fan module sometimes feels that’s a $60 part sometimes the motors fail on the fans that can get expensive if you buy the whole shroud I’ve just replaced the motor in it

Watch the overflow tank after you run the engine for a bit and shut it off. I was losing a gallon or so each day of driving and couldn’t find the leak. I just happened to hear a whistling when a friend shut the engine off and it was leaking under the overflow onto the skid plate but only when the engine shut off and the pressure on the overflow tank became excessive upon engine shutdown. It is easier just to remove the overflow and do a pressure test on it. Also, my problem began with a bad thermostat which requires removing the intake manifold. Sounds worse than it is but it is pretty extensive for a thermostat and hoses aren’t cheap.
