Just finished installing the damper. It took about 20 minutes.
Here is the untapped hole. TSB says it’s tapped… it’s not!
This looks to be the right size:
Wait, I can’t turn it…
How about a drill?
I tapped that hole like it’s never been tapped before.
Mmmm shiny threads.
Done!!
Now I did have a slight issue. The TSB says to torque to 55.5 lb/ft. I got to about 40 when it became a whole lot easier to tighten the bolt. I backed it out and confirmed that I stripped the holes a bit. I didn’t remove any of the damaged threads, rather just put the bolt back in and tightened until it was good enough. It seems pretty tight but I will keep my eye on it to see if backs out any. I really don’t want to drill it out and install a helicoil but I guess that’s plan B if this doesn’t hold.
I went for a drive and I do confirm that this fixes the vibration by about 80-90%. Enough so that you would not notice it if you didn’t know it was there.
10/10 would do it again!
