We have a 95 Classic, decided to do the hoses so I changed the oil and then washed the engine down. After washing it down it would not start, would hardly turn over.
Swapped batteries and it then started and ran fine. The "bad" battery seems to be holding a charge today. My wife took it to work, about 35 miles each way. Ran fine going to work. About halfway back the svc engine light came on but ran fine. When she got to the house the idle was a little rough.
This morning found the 44 code. Did a quick check on the wires to the O2 sensor, the vacum lines and the dist rotor, cap and wires. The 7 wire was dirty at the plug end and the 7 plug was loose! Cleaned the connection, tightened the plug, pulled it out and the threads were dirty but the plug looked good (stuff blowing by?). 5 tight but I pulled it and it looked a bit sooty but the rest were okay and tight. The rotor and cap have some wear around the contacts. Wires and rotor and cap about two years old, 225,000 miles on the truck.
So tomorrow another look at the wires for the O2 sensor and the vacum lines. Don't think it was the washing down, since it didn't do it for over 50 miles and eight hours? Any ideas? Cleared the code by pulling the connection to the code display, is that the "serial connection"?
