Hey everyone.

I have been digging in through the threads trying to find a possible solution/answer to my new problem. About 6 months ago i started noticing that my reverse gear feels like its slipping/grinding/skipping a few teeth, with a moderate amount of throttle. I can feel it and hear it. I was upset, but not to upset, since its only reverse and it works just fine with light throttle.

Then yesterday, I just started feeling light grinding in my first gear. Now I'm pretty concerned cause I'm not a tranny guy and I don't know how many limbs I will have to lose to fix this problem. To me it definitely feels like I'm grinding gears. I know that my rotoflex coupler is pretty worn. Strings are hanging down from it and its all cracked. So i will be replacing it, I read an older thread on how that might be a cause of whats going on.

But if my tranny is going out then I mine as well not spend another dime on my truck. (Even though I love her dearly.)

Any advice about the rotoflex, or if my tranny is just slowly grinding itself to a nice fine metal pulp. Also note all other gears are operating normally. at least for now.

Thanks guys

5 speed or auto?

If 5 speed, I would say you have the 1/r syncro going bad.

If auto, then you could have the same issue, I have never rebuilt an auto.

Sorry forgot to mention, it is an auto. I think i need an better understanding of what a syncro does. I thought it had something to do with shifting. And if the snycro is failing is that the noise I hear, or is it making my gears grind?

You can tell I don't know to much about transmissions. Just that neutral drops are bad. hehe

the syncro is normal a Stander transmission thing... it aligns the gears to make it easier to shift....

I am sure that it is not good on the Auto side either.

I know www.roverguy.com has sold several transmissions in the past (used) for around $500 if you need to replace it...

Ok I figured it out. My Rotoflex did finally kick the bucket. I knew it was going bad, but the noise felt like it was coming from the gearbox. But after doing another inspection I'm now sure the rotoflex is done. Now i'm just waiting by the mailbox.
