Also have to replace engine in my 98 Disco. Believe the previous owner overheated it as I have rebuilt it twice (Both times replacing #7 sleeve/piston/rings) and once again after 4100km's #7 area is leaking oil severely. If is simply not the head gasket then what engines will fit without too much work to mod. I live in Saudi (near Kuwaitit border) and 3.9 4,0 and 4.6's are all available REASONABLY priced ($700 to 1400 INSTALLED). I plan on buying the most appropriat and do the overhaul prior to installation as the engines are as is with a 30 day warranty but ai Need to know that it is going to get me home.
Thanks in advance for any insight/help/hints etc etc

Land Rover's for export to Mid East have NO NADA pollution control junk (air pump, O2 sensors, cat or anything and 91 leaded octane is 62 cents per gal.

:creep: for now

Most people over here, when given the opportunity to replace an engine upgrade and in your case, a 4.6 would sure make a nice improvement and is pretty much plug and play.

Agreed, My 4.0 would be a 4.6 in a heart beat when it goes bad.
