Finally after alot of wanting, I bought a Disco.

Today, the front prop shaft took a poo while my wife was driving. It appears that there is no severe damage, just some marks where it hit its surroundings. The question I have is when that shaft goes out, will the trans not engage gears? The shifter moves but the car doesnt. Probably a good thing if it doesnt go into gear

D1 or D2?

Welcome to the forum. If a D1 you can lock the center diff real easy, if a D2 you have to crawl under and manually lock it in, then it will drive.

It's a D2. The trans pan is a little dinged up but the trans itself looks ok. There is a small gash in the floorboard insulation. and a few other minor dings. Anything else to look for? I'm hoping my wife's quick reaction to shutting it down saved me a bunch of cash.

Nice welcome to the Discovery world? I've only had her for 3 weeks

Sadly wish you would have been on here sooner and we would have mentioned to change the U-joints... they are the first thing to go on the D2.

Check all the transmission linkage, and any wires for cuts.
