Hi everyone... any advice you can give me is greatly appreciated. Like the title says, i've been looking to buy my first ever LR and I love the way the Disco II looks. I've looked at a couple Disco IIs and test drove with and without the ACE system and I find the one with the ACE system is better in terms of handling. I'm leaning more towards with the ACE.

Overall, how reliable are the drivetrain on these Disco IIs? From the tranny to the transfer case to the rear diff. I'm not going to be off roading the Disco but I will need it to haul my race car and a few snow trips up to the mountains during the winter season. I'm a performance oriented guy and have an average knowledge when it comes to working on cars.

Secondly, the engine. I believe it needs more power during highway commute and from paper, it is adequate enough to pull a max of 7500 towing load. That's awesome. But anyway, what do you guys recommend for power adders?

and lastly, let me know if this is a good price. I was quoted $13.5k for this '00 Disco II w/ ACE. Here's a pix! It should be ready this thursday for pickup and to finalized the documents. It's really in good shape and it's fully equipped with jump seats and a tow hitch already installed.

Looks nice, but the 7500 lbs towing is in LOW range.... not Highway. You only have 5500lbs for the highway, and it must have trailer brakes, and the trailer can't be very long (somewhere in the 20 foot range) due to the short wheel base 100 inches.

Price isn't bad if low mileage.

Also the 5500 lbs is based off or a 180lb driver with no passengers and no vehicle cargo if I recall correctly.

If you looking for a tow vehicle I hate to say it, but the Disco may not be the best choice....

I have bad news... the dealer is backing out on the deal and won't sell it to me. I thought I was going to pick up the Disco today and was very anxious to bring her up to the mountains this weekend and test it out but unfortunately, it looks like it's not going to happen.

It was such a lame excuse that was given to me and I just scratch my head. Shady dealership is all I can say.

We loved our Tonga 01 SE7 with ACE.

But you have to know what you are getting into. They drive like buses, make noises like buses and are prone to wind leaks.

Ours never had any issues outside of a failed MAF and served as a great vehicle for guests to use when visiting us in the mountains.

All of that said, the LR3 we replaced it with is well worth the extra money. A totally different vehicle.
