Hi everybody!

I just recently acquired a '97 Discovery. I knew the exhaust needed a rebuild but my (first) surprise was when my mechanic called me about the rear brakes...

Long story short: the rear brakes need a complete rebuild. I got all the parts needed to do the job myself (with some help) but I've hit a wall. The ABS sensor ring inside the rotor is completely rusted in. 10 hours have gone into trying to remove it so far. I looked into buying new ones but I need to remove them to separate the rotor and hub anyways.

Any ideas, tips, tricks or miracles handy?

Thanks in advance,

~Ben

Rusted parts are the worst:mad:

Liberal applications of penetrating oil and heat are the solution. SOAK the thing in penetrating oil---every day for a few days. An occasional rap with a hammer helps the oil get in deeper (and will make you feel better.)

Heat from a torch (not the little propane type, but real oxy-torch) can be played over the disk and/or ABS ring. Causing differences in heat expansion between the parts helps break the corrosive bonds.

Well after 2 weeks of playing with the rusted bits I finally took a grinder and hacked the disc clean off in sections...

By the time the raised section was gone the ring popped right out with no effort and I was able to separate what was left of the disc from the hub assembly.
