Mike,
Sounds like your getting the Rover bug, this is good.
I agree with Sergei, flush the engine crank case or have a complete flush done, this will really help in the long term.
I use the Bosh Platium Plus 4's along with the 8 mm Magnecor's, they are better than the 7 mm wires and will give you one hell of a punch over factory wires.
When doing all the fluids, especially the brakes and power steering fluids, use a synthetic, they will hold up alot better.
You might want to get a can of carb. cleaner and clean out the throttle body while cleaning out the stepper motor, and on your first outing, run a couple of cans of good gas additive to clean out the injectors.

I just can't seem to leave well enough alone when it comes to vehicles.
