Anyone .....and I mean ANYONE looking to replace their OE 19" wheels should look no further than the
superb Compomotive 18"s from the U.K. Yes, they are expensive, but in many ways better than the other
couple of aftermarket 18"s on the market. With 18"s you can run the brilliant & tough BFG A/T KO2's that
are not made for 19" wheels.
Here in Australia the general consensus amongst serious off-roaders is that the BFG's (both A/T & M/T) are
superior to Coopers A/T's. The sidewalls are so much tougher in terrain with flinty rocks.
I had two sets of the previous BFG A/T's on a Series 1 Disco & they were great. I've just put BFG A/T KO2's
on my 2014 D 4 on new Compo 18"s (265/60-18) & I'm very happy. The wheels look perfect on the vehicle,
lock nuts & OE caps fit perfectly, the car handles & rides great, only slightly more noise than the OE Goodyear Wranglers & I'm feeling much more secure in all conditions. The overall size is virtually the same as the 255/55-19's so no rubbing or fouling issues. 265/65-18"s will also fit, but then the speedo is further out & I believe the spare won't fit underneath - no concern to me as I have a Kaymar rear wheel carrier.
I've even seen D3's which run 18"s as standard, where the owner has replaced them with the stronger
Compomotives just because they look so much better!
The D4 is a brilliant, but not cheap vehicle. Don't compromise on wheels & tyres. I don't reckon spacers or
rods is a good way to go. Spend the extra on the Compomotives, fit good rubber & the vehicle will look after you & look great as well.
