I have 1999 4.6 and I have recently been experiencing some major fluctuations in the stability of the interior heaters. If I set the blower temp on 'low' on the screen for instance, I will get some cold air on one side but the other side of the screen is blowing hot (engine warm of course). Even when I set all the vents to cold, one will blow hot somehow.

It tends to run cool until I set the control to HI. The aircon os set to OFF with the light on. The problem is constant.
The expansion tank need a little top up the other day and I was thinking 'head gasket' but have not checked for oil i the water etc yet. But, the engine temp is totally stable.

Does anyone have any ideas what might be causing this please?

Either the blend motor is going bad (which is possible) or you may also have an air pocket in the coolant system... or both.

Thanks for that.

Is there any special technique for bleeding the system from cold? I assume the heaters have to be set to hot on both sides of the control panel...
