I searched the threads but didn't find much info about maintenance on the brakes for a 97 disco. I need to replace the fluid and replace the rotors and pads eventually. What kind of mission am I looking at here?

oops, forgot the rotor and pad part... not so much fun... about an hour per wheel on a D1 unless you have done it before, then maybe 30 to 45 minutes.

Okay thanks. Anything special I need to do the rotors and pads? Is it possible to replace the fluid without a power bleeder or is that the best way?

Sorry, been out of town. No special tools, other than the hub nut tool.... you can buy at just about any LR aftermarket online shop.

You can bleed the brakes anyway you want, but unless you have two people to do the job the power bleeder is the easiest.

What's the hub nut tool? Also, I need to pack the bearings, at least on one wheel. I remember seeing a land rover guide online about it before.

You will need to repack the bearings on both sides... not hard, just take some parts cleaner, clean the bearings, check the races for any damage. No damage take some grease and roll it into the palm of your hand. Kind of like the motion you may have seen for greasing your palms (asking for money in the movies).

Cool, thanks for the link. I'll have to get that soon. So the bearings don't sound too bad to do.

Isn't that the same as a 2 1/16 IN Socket?? Thats what I used, I think.. You should need a BF hammer to seperate the hub from the rotor. I put the hub in the vice, real easy like, and tapped all the way around the rotor to un-stick it.
