I have a recently purchased 1998 Discovery. It had been sputtering during acceleration and had a rough idle so I went to change the spark plugs and saw that not only were the spark plugs burned out, but 2 of the spark plug wires had actually been severed and glued back together so those plugs weren't firing at all. I changed the wires and plugs to the Bosch platinum and the autozone wires that fit the vehicle and the idle immediately cleaned up and there was no more sputtering (which is great). What did begin though is that my check engine light began flashing and when I coded it I got a misfire code and the car was making a popping noise. After checking through the forums I saw a thread that suggested that the valves were dirty and that maybe seafoaming it would work. So I did sea foam it and it cleared all the codes but a p1313 (passenger side catalytic coverter) code showed up and it is still backfiring. I looked under the car briefly at the passenger cat and it is smoking and seems to be leaking as well. What's the next step? And thank you for all your help in the past too.
