Hi, I'm new this is my first post and of course I have a question. I have a 98 Discovery, it runs great and had no issues until now. The problem is it has sparodic failure of the guages and dashboard lights, they will be working fine and than just quit. The Disco will still run and drive just fine. Than they may or may not work next time I start the engine. The main problem is my wife has the vehicle in Durango CO and I am in TX. Is there anything I could tell her to look for? Thank you.

If the gauges and lights fail you have a ground issue. If just the dash lights, then I would say the headlight switch is bad and you need to replace it.

Ground, short or cracked circuit board are the 3 main causes for what you are describing.
Don't let you wife take it to anyone unless they are a good Rover mechanic and before she authorizes any work, get back to us with what they find wrong and the estimate.

Thank you for the advice, I will check the ground at the battery.
Is there a specific ground at the ecu or under the dash also?

Ground under the dash will more then likely be the issue.

Hi, I have an update. My wife says that all the lights work perfectly, its only the gauges-spedomiter and the tach that don't work. The gas gauge still works and the CEL light is on. As far as other electric equipment A/C, radio, etc. They all work fine, the Disco runs and drives great. Any more ideas? Thank you
