Hi gang,

I'm just getting my '05 LR3 SE up and running in Canada here and I was just quoted $450 CDN to get my DRL's up and running. Do you guys think this is a reasonable price ? Any way I could do this myself ? Are their manual's for the LR3 that one can buy that has this type of info ?

Thanks in advance,

It requires test book... your service department's computer tool. You can't do it. It shouldn't cost more than the minimum time labor charge... it's a very short procedure. But, of course, your dealer is free to charge whatever they want.

Yeah, it takes longer to plug into the car and boot up the computer than it does to change the setting. I have found that bringing Grande sized Starbucks to the shop early in the morning usually can get stuff like this done on the fly.

I thought the canadian versions already had the DRLs enabled. Also, I had read last year somewhere on the forums that it took like less than an hour to switch em on here in the US. I clearly remember asking my service dept. a year and half ago or so and I was told exactly fifty bucks to switch the DRLs on.

$50 bucks eh ? Ya, no I bought the truck down in Wisconsin and brought it back up to Canada so the DRL's were set to off. Just seems criminal to charge $450 for an hour of work. I think the dealers here in Canada are trying to punish people for cross-border shopping because they know this procedure needs to be done to safety a car in Canada. I should see how much it would be to take to the States again and have this done. Even if I don't save much just to give a big F.U to the dealer.

$50 bucks eh ? OK, so now I know the dealer here is screwing me Guess its penalty pricing by a Canadian Dealer for cross-border shopping as they know this has to be done on US vehicles entering Canada. More than a car payment just to switch the lights on.

Is the software used proprietary to LR ? I just don't get why I can't have a regular car mechanic do this (haven't called around yet today)

Yeah i dont think its a switch you can throw yourself. As grommet, the man of knowledge here, mentioned above the requirement of testbook, etc.

You can certainly try a US dealer closest to the border, but you dont wanna give an impression of any small or big F.U to your local dealer who you are gonna be dealing with for the future maintenance/services

$450 is outrageously excessive. I dont know if you could legally drive with the headlights manually switched on, and wait until you have to visit your dealer for a routine service/maintenance check or have to get something done (like a software tune patch download or something) that will require them to connect your vehicle to the computer/testbook. At that moment you can use nwood's coffee trick and ask your service advisor to hook you up.

Sorry about the double post guys.

I definitely hear what you are saying about p.o'ing the dealer, just seems criminal to charge that much. Ive been calling around today and have had no success finding a mechanic with testbook. Is testbook associated with any other types of vehicles ?

I know I will end up eating this cost. Just seeing if there was any way to save a bill or 2.

thanks again !
