Hello, I bought a black '97 Disco and was very proud of myself for snapping up an N.A. Euro make. I thought I could baby the Land Rover. I steam cleaned the motor. Now, the idle parked transmission races like I am cruising the interstate when I rip over the ignition switch, and when I shift the Rove down into a drive gear the RPMs cool down to a calm 800 or so. My mechanic does not have a personality key for Land Rover. My mechanic has puzzled with the Disco some already; replaced the original shocks, wired the fuse box so all the dash cluster lights and all tail/brake lights work (because of a rotten fuse box), and changes light bulbs, oil, and brake fluid, cruise control; we still cannot figure out how to get the saddle on this horse. Denny has replaced vacuum hoses, too. I called Land Rover, their shop wants to scan Disco; I am a patriot, however, I am also not the spend thrift. The Rover does not seem to mind the open throttle and in the winter months the truck really stirs up in negative temps. I try to pass the racing parked idle speed off as a sophisticated tuning program, am I fooling myself??

I would start by cleaning the MAF sensor, the IAC and the TPS as well as the throttle body.

Oh, really?

Thank you for the suggestions; please tell me what purpose these parts have and the location of these parts if you would like to: MAF sensor, IAC, TPS, throttle body.

MAF = Mass Air Flow Sensor just behind the air box it has a plug going to it... clean with MAF cleaner only (follow directions on the can)

IAC - Idle Air Control
TPS - Throttle Position Sensor = both are side by side just to the left of where the air hose goes into the intake. Each has a plug going into them.

Throttle body - At least the butterfly = remove the air hose from the intake, the throttle body start there.

Thank you very much for information, Joey. The Landy goes to Denny tomorrow for a few reasons, I will pass on this information about the idle and throttle parts to him, he is my mechanic.

Thank you for the gesture; however, the program will not show any more than the outline of the contents available. It is quite a file!
