Do I need a separate set of winter tires?

I agree. Two sets are the easiest thing.
I usually put my winter set on when the temperature gets to 45F and stays there or below (November most of the time) and put the summer set back on when the temperatures will steadily stay above 45F.
As someone mentioned it also feels like you're driving a different vehicle for a little while since the tires have a very different feel.
