Yes, it needs cutting and splicing. I'm unaware of any ability to just buy the switch from Land Rover. I only ever saw the switch and the whole loom and it was pricey.
My mistake, the part I was looking at was for the Range Rover sport. Not compatible with LR4

Saga update:
New switch and actuator in and liftgate still opening an inch and catching. That made me thing latch!
Using the key fob the latch seems to half open (hence catching after the tailgate opens an inch). I can them open it further by leveraging with a screwdriver.
Weirdly the liftgate now won't close all way as it bounces off the latch???
3 latch positions locked to open below. Does this look normal? The latch does not seem to open fully, but will not move further?
Thoughts?

Sounds like you have a sticky latch. Have you tried lubing it? I like using CRC Heavy Duty Silicone spray on everything. It doesn't attract dust or dirt and leaves a thing silicone film for lubrication.

I would lube it, use a philips screw driver to lock the latch, unlock the latch, lube some more, and cycle through a few lock/unlock to see if that helps.

FYI, that's what the dealership did when I told them I had similar issues a few years ago.

Thanks, I tried that but it still tends to catch in half open position. I can't work out why liftgate will now not close, as I have not adjusted it at all

Took the latch out and lubricated the hell out of it. Still catching midway when opening, so new latch ordered. $CAD 55 off ebay locally vs. $CAD 140 from dealer.
