Hi,

I'm new to Land Rovers, but I have a 2006 LR3 SE.

I contemplating adding an aftermarket DVD/MP3 type system in the front. Maybe mount the head unit in the upper part of the glove box and fit a screen in the gap where the factory LCD would be.

I believe I should be able to connect audio to the AUX behind the centre console. What I have no clue about is where to tap power from. I don't want to pull it all apart until I'm sure I know how and where to do this.

Could anyone be so kind as to help me out here - what exactly am I looking for? A spare plug connector or splice into power and ignition wiring?

Do I need to add a fused connection?

If anyone has pictures I would be very grateful, but some good instructions/description would also be good.

Thanks

I suggest you plug into an available empty fuse which is conveniently located behind the glove box just under your preferred installation point. As tempermental as the electrical systems in the LR3 can be, I don't think you want the DVD player or LCD to have a constant draw on the car battery.

I tapped my Sirius I had up therre into the wiring for the power point at the bottom of the console stack. I figured that it is there to power ACC. stuff anyway, right? No problems over the past 42 months.
For a how to, you'll spend some time in search, but the basics are to pull the trim on the center stack, (pull from the bottom), it will feel like it will break, but it won't, then I pulled the components one by one and ran my power wire down and I hate to admit it, used Scotchlocks for the tap-in. The wires ran behind the components and I ran them just over the lip of where the trim meets the center opening. I didn't want to drill a hole, so I concaved the bottom of the removable trim a bit so it wouldn't pinch the wires much. It worked, so I'm satisfied.

Ok, thanks for the pointers. That all sounds very sensible.

I just need to find the best components for my needs now. Then start pulling it all apart!

I'll do a few more searches too.

Thanks
