I had a camshaft timing code that would occur in 4th on the freeway (it needed a load, i.e a lot of wind resistance to reproduce reliably) and sometimes while getting on the freeway. Seems like the same symptoms and restricted performance came on. If I reset power off/on then it was fine with no codes, no performance problem until the next time.
The problem was an oil solenoid that controlled the flow to the camshaft timing actuator that was failing. I had both replaced (one one each head) even though only one failed and I suggest the same approach.
That failure wouldn't be related to the recall. The mechanic will want to swap cam sensors as they did it on my truck. In my case they did it without asking and then charged me $300 for labor that I didn't approve of. I wouldn't have paid for it and I would have saved several hundred dollars including my time, which means nothing to them. KENGINSTON Motorcars in Vegas, don't trust those guys.
