Hello, new here....

First off I absolutely love my 06 LR3 HSE. I have only one issue. When the engine is under load, I hear a ping seems to lose power. I have also noticed that my gas mileage is around 12.5. Researching a bit, I learned that this may be pre-ignition ping (thoughts anyone) OR I recently learned that when an LR3 is delivered to a dealership, the ECU is in Transportation mode, in which it needs to be programmed. Is this true? At idle, it is smooth as silk....rev out of drive, smooth as silk, under load, above 2k rpm, the ping appears. Engine or tranny?

Thank you.

Pretty simple question, but what sort of gas are you using? I would think the LR3 would have a knock sensor to handle lower octane gas, but I'm not sure. If you are putting 87 octane in it that could cause the pinging and lower performance you are mentioning.

I figured my question was too simple to actually be the problem - clearly 93 octane is plenty.

Sorry - I'm not sure what could be causing your problem, but I'm curious to know.

Good luck!

I don't know the answer, but yes, when a car is first shipped, it does come in in transport mode. It is basically asleep and shuts down many functions during shipping to prevent the battery from going flat, and the problems of suspension travel during transport.
As for knock sensors, Yes the car has them, and the spark cut rate is pretty fast. It just seems the engine is way to sensitive to knock. Or something else is wrong. No check engine light? Pretty strange.

I get around 11.5 in mixed driving on 265/65R18's and a roof rack, @ 6000 feet.

Wow - we average about 16.5 in mixed driving at 6000ft. But we are bone stock, and my wife drives like a grandma

It appears that engine updates and something to do with the trannie (that is on software now too it seems). Night and day difference. Very happy. A lot of it has to do with the engine management software...and the dealership was absolutely awesome.

So you just took it in and had the software flashed...and now it's all better? I'm having the same engine noise with only 6k miles on my new LR3. So I'm hoping it's an easy fix.

Thanks!
