Hi all,

We just bought a 2005 LR3 SE with 35K on it and have brought it back to Canada and now the one set of keys we have won't work. Neither the Lock or Unlock buttons do anything.

Apparently there is no battery in the FOB so it can't be a dead battery, could it have somehow become de-programmed ?

OR - Its been very rainy here, and our sunroof is leaking. After some reading it seems like the RF power supply for the remote is under the pass. side floor (right under where the leak is) One person's advice was to go under there and replace the "sauder junction" - has anyone had this done ? I'm wondering how much $$$ to repair this.

It never came up at the dealership as they were working at that point, and he did speak with LR today and they are sending him a new key/FOB but I have a feeling even after reprogramming it it won't work.

I'll hang up and listen.

I have no idea what the problem might be, but there is a battery in the key fob, it is a rechargeable battery that is charged by the truck when the key is in the ignition.

If it's been out of the truck for while, try charging it. Also, though it's a distant possibility, batteries go bad sometimes. Maybe yours did?

Thanks for the response, is the battery replaceable ? My wife called the LR dealership here and they said its not really a battery that can be taken out and changed etc. How long do you have to drive to recharge it ? We've been driving it like crazy lately. Just taking it back to Canada over the weekend it was about 14 hours worth.

I would be very happy if its just a dead battery in the fob and thanks again for your post !

Now wait, you say one key works and the other one does not ?? Or you only have

We only got 1 key/fob from the dealer, he emailed me today after I advised of this and he said he talked to LR and they are sending him a new set and he's going to mail them to us. But ya, just the one key. And another thing, is that when we got to the dealership the plastic covering for the driver side door lock was just hanging there. He popped it back on and I never thought about it. But obviously the problem was there and known about as the last person that had to get into the truck had to do so manually. Ugh !

I'll let someone else handle the whole hanging plastic issue. The remote is rechargeable through the ignition. You just stick it in there and it recharges. I've never seen a figure as to how long from dead to full charge. We opened one up, and after a lot of cutting and breaking stuff we got to the soldered in battery. Definitely not meant to be replaced!
If the dealer is sending you a remote, it will have to be programmed...a dealer operation. Thr key will still start it, but if you can't get in, well that is not so cool.
I'm surprised the selling dealer didn't check the remotes, have two keys available @ delivery, put the car together, etc. That is really not so hot.

Thanks Davez26 - You would think that driving it for 15-30 minutes would at least charge it enough to lock the doors though wouldn't you ? It just won't do anything except lock and unlock manually and start the car (thank God it does that at least)

I've read so much about how great a FOB it is and I'm sure it is, but that makes it very hard to get info on ones that do have problems.

No one thinks it could be the RF receiver in the truck that isn't accepting the signal ? And with the new fob/key I'm getting, does anyone know if that's attached to the VIN # ? How will it know to start my truck.

Thanks again for all the help ! This is a sweet resource board !

Typically, if there is a fob problem, it has lost synchronization with the car somehow and needs to be reprogrammed. In reality, since the car looks for and recognizes the remote, the car is at fault because it lost synchronization somehow. Once in a while we come across a remote that just doesn't transmit. In the past 3 years we have replaced 1 RF receiver.
Keys/Fobs are ordered by VIN thru LRNA. No other way. They are cut to the codes recorded on the build date. The key shank is inserted into the fob, which then needs the aforementioned programming.
I would think 15-20 minutes would charge enough, but since you are going to need the new fob programmed, be sure to take them both. You need them both anyway as the reprogram process wipes the memory, and then whatever fobs present @ the time of the procedure are learned by the car.

OK, this is great info Davez26 very much appreciated - when you say you've only replaces one RF receiver, that's the unit inside the vehicle that accepts the signal right ? Because that's my main concern, that it is damaged somehow (all the water from the sunroof leaking onto the floor) and that we will have to get under the floor boards and such. As long as its the remote or battery I'll be happy with that.
