My 2003 Disco II is sick ... when I turn the steering wheel to the right (in a hard turn) it moans. It's a soft moan but a moan none the less. I have checked the power steering fluid and it's fine. I've had the car checked by my local mechanic (who isn't a Rover expert) and he's narrowed it down to the steering wheel. Unfortunately, he hasn't the equipment to fix it himself. So is he right? Has anyone had this problem? Is it FATAL!!!!!
:ahhhhh:

You said the p/s fluid looked fine, I challange you on that one, what colors was it, how long since it has been changed?
Before you burn up your pump, change flush your system and add a 1/2 can of Lucas p/s fluid to the system.
If you don't know how ask us.
Also, how long has it been since all your other fluids have been changed out?

Mike, P/S fluid looks orange. Everytime I take my rover in, the mechanics look at all my fluid levels. They're not Rover mechanics but I trust them. They had my Rover for 5 days trying to find the groan ... they looked at everything ...finally they said it was the steering column. They gave me back the car because they did not have the proper tools to work on it. They recommended taking it to a dealer. This was all done at no charge.

I don't believe the system has been flushed. Is that normally done when you go in for an oil change or is it something you have to ask your mechanic to do?

Thanks for the help.
