But did you mean a non-LR mechanic? Or into the woods where you have to rely on the car?
Yeah you're right my 1983 BJ42 Toyota Landcruiser is easier to fix (actually never breaks), but not as easy on bums and brains for the 18 hours ride!!! Support may be scarce out there for the fancier LR4, but hey! it's the perfect machine for such a travel and fortunately support is right here in this forum!!!!Very little support/parts or expertise in less travelled places. The further you are from support the greater the advantage of simplicity. ie. a nice simple TBI SMC Chevy V8 would be ideal in the far reaches. Like an old K5 Blazer, Bronco or Land Cruiser. Fix it with an adjustable wrench and some wire.
Same reason that when I travel far/remote on motorcycles I leave the fancy KTM 500 EXC at home an take the Suzuki DR650. One can be fixed with a rock and some string, the other not so much.
