But did you mean a non-LR mechanic? Or into the woods where you have to rely on the car?

Very little support/parts or expertise in less travelled places. The further you are from support the greater the advantage of simplicity. ie. a nice simple TBI SMC Chevy V8 would be ideal in the far reaches. Like an old K5 Blazer, Bronco or Land Cruiser. Fix it with an adjustable wrench and some wire.

Same reason that when I travel far/remote on motorcycles I leave the fancy KTM 500 EXC at home an take the Suzuki DR650. One can be fixed with a rock and some string, the other not so much.

Yeah you're right my 1983 BJ42 Toyota Landcruiser is easier to fix (actually never breaks), but not as easy on bums and brains for the 18 hours ride!!! Support may be scarce out there for the fancier LR4, but hey! it's the perfect machine for such a travel and fortunately support is right here in this forum!!!!

Ok guys. Just landed in Chisasibi with my sparkling parts and brand new GAP DIAGNOSTIC G3 BT tool!!!
Here is the timeline and cascade of events according to the Gap Doctor :

(NB : On 08-07-2023 gas tank filled up in Chisasibi. Drove around without problem. Then...)
  • On 13-07-2023 15:39:29 at 183187 km: P0300-00 (EC) Random misfire detected
  • On 13-07-2023 15:40:01 at 183187 km: P0306-00 (EC) Cylinder 6 misfire detected
  • On 13-07-2023 15:42:52 at 183190 km : P1315-00 (AC) Persistent misfire - catalyst damage
  • On 16-07-2023 20:14:12 at 183256 km : P0301-00 (EC) Cylinder 1 misfire detected
I'm going to see the best mechanic in town (and a thousand mile range) with all this tomorrow.
Simple question but... which one is Cylinder #1, and which is #6?... on an SCV6 left hand drive 2016 LR4?

Is this accurate? Cylinder #1 is at the passenger side, at the front, and #6 is the nearest to the driver?

From the workshop manual I have on hand, it says "DIN standard cylinder numbering" but the diagram doesn't clearly indicate where the front is. The legend references 'A' but the diagram shows 'B', a bit dodgy. Another diagram in the manual says that bank 1 is on the right side, which would suggest the rear of the engine is where the 'B' is (assuming bank 1 would have cylinders 1-3), and that all would align with the diagram you posted.

I had a scenario that started with intermittent misfires that ended up eventually throwing codes that lead me to the fuel system and one of the High Pressure Fuel Pumps was the issue. I have also read that the Crank Position Sensor can cause intermittent and hard to trace misfires. Good Luck
