While being ripped off at the deal to diagonse a problem they told me that I needed a valve job. No problem I thought until he, with a very calm and relaxed voice quoted me a price of $4000.00. I have a 96' disco w/116000 on it the last thing I want to do is drop 4 grand into a valve job. I know I can get done cheaper. Anyone have any advice or ever have had it done?

Try running Seafoam through you gas, oil and intake......see the posted thread......I was having a misfire problem on my 96 with 115500km that kept throwing the check engine light. After trying all of the simple tricks, the problem seemed to suggest bad valves, but after running seafoam as described, the truck runs perfectly, and no more stalling/misfires or check engine. The valves just had a lot of carbon build-up. Here in Ontario, Canada 3 cans of Seafoam cost about $24 at NAPA stores........definitely a better deal if it works, and is better for the truck in the long run even if it doesn't!!!!!

Jason,
If you feel there is a problem, have someone do a compresson test. wet and dry if necessary and maybe a leak down test if called for, then you will know for sure.
And yes SeaFoam or B&G's 24K will clean up alot of carbon if that is the only problem.
Do your homework and if needed, you can have a small shop do the heads for alot less then what you were quoted.

Thanks guys. I have been thinking for a while about the seafoam just a little apprehensive. But I think maybe next weekend I will try and give it a shot. I'll let you know how it works after I give it a try. Also who can clear the codes for me?

Do due the SeaFoam thing, make sure to buy 3 cans and when you get ready get back to us so we can tell you the best way to use it for the best results.

Mike, wasn't able to get the seafoam. Had to much S.G.O. (S**T going on) this weekend school, girlfriend, blah, blah, blah. I will grab some this week and then give you a hollar. One more thing should I pick up any vacuum hose? If so do you know what size off-hand?
