Your spark plugs would not be replaced under warranty usually, but if you have your old work orders, look at the parts list and see.
If you have not had plugs installed this could be part of the problem, at your mileage spark plug wires are junk and should be replaced.
As for gas additives, I think B&G's 44K is the best followed closely by SeaFoam then Cheverons Techtron. The rest fall in under the catagory of "SO SO".
What year is your truck again?
When you buy plugs get the Bosh Platiumn Plus 4's and for wires buy 8mm, plug wires like Magnaco or better, they will make a hugh difference in your power.
By the way, Seafoam can be purchased at Napa, make sure you buy 3 cans, I'll tell you what to do with it when you're ready.
Also, has your check engine light come on during any of your recent problems?

Just ordered the 8mm Magnaco wires and will pick up the Bosch plugs (I'm assuming they will have them at NAPA as well) when I pick up the seafoam.

Truck is a 99 Discovery 2.

I never did get a check engine light when this happened. It really isn't doing it that badly and I haven't driven it since I started to feel it so I may not have given it time to come on yet.

I'll be doing it this weekend. What do I need three cans for? One for the fuel tank, one for the vacum line, and one for??

If this doesn't fix it what might be the next step?

Lets not go there yet, I am hoping this will fix things.
So you have a 99, like mine, I was hoping it was older so you wouldn't have such a hard time installing the plug wires. They are a B---h to replace. I hope you have a long arm and a small hand, you will need it to get back to the coil packs, where the wires plug in. Go take a look and follow the wires to the back of your engine block, between the engine and the fire wall above the transmission and then get back to me.

hmmm.... this sounds like it's going to be fun. The plug wires are on order so I'll repost once I get everything that I need to do the job. In the meantime I'll take a look to see if I can get to the wires. Thanks for taking the time to help me out with this. Since this is such a common thing it might be nice if this could be put into some sort of "how to" page for everyone to access (might be, haven't looked yet).

I should get the wires in early next week. Thanks again!!

Spend some time while looking at the connections, they are hard to get to, but by doing them yourself, you will save a good $200 in labor from a shop cause they usually pull the intake manifold off to do the job.

Mike, what happened to your no holds barred on the Seafoam, you used to hate 44K. LOL
Hey quick question about the seafoam. I got three cans like you said tank, vaccum, and valve cover. Already threw one in tank, question is can you vac it with out changing oil or should you change oil after you vac it?

I never hated 44K, sure which it was cheaper like Seafoam.
Yes, one in the tank, one in the crank case and the other through the induction system using 2 feet of vacuum hose and a connection on the manifold or throttle body to slowly suck the stuff in. I use a pair of pliars to crimp the vacuum line from the can to the engine, it does work better if you can slow this process down to 4 or 5 minutes.
Remember to let it sit for a good half hour when done before you drive. Also on the engine oil, just keep an eye on it and change it when it is starting to get dirty, this will vary depending on how dirt your engine is.
Good luck,
mike J.

Hey Joey

I see your thread concerning the best place to use seafoam in the elbox hose. do youu have dig pic I can take a look at here? You were kind enough to respond mentioning to my question on using seafoam from the passenger side which may have only decarbonized the vales on the passenger. Would you recommend I use seafoam again based upon you suggestion above to his the valves on the diriver side? Just wondering if I am going seafoam crazy here.

Thanks !

I don't have a pic of the D2 (under hood that is) I am sure I could find one, just don't have the time right this moment.

As far as the seafoam goes, don't forget... one can in the gas tank one in the oil just before an oil change, and one in the intake..... you sould be able to just remove the air cleaner hose from the intake and see the butterfly I am talking about... with the Rover at an idle slowly add the seafoam (this is kick an error for the MAF, because it will not be getting air via the air hose).

But other than that it will clean ever thing up... it also doesn't hurt to wipe all the black garbage from around the butterfly either.
