I decided to get one of these;

Anyone else use anything like it?

It turns out I wanted the tow hitch receiver for flexibility, but I rarely if ever use it. However, since this was an "option" on my LR3 I do not have a nice place to stash the receiver, so it always stays on the car. (which is actually kind of useless since I don't have a place to put the actual hitch...that stays at home.)

Anyway, I am just waiting for the road trip that I hope never comes...the one where I am far away from home and I lose my key. In the past, I always had a hide-a-key on the car, but our fobs our too big and they're probaby $300 to replace which is a big *** of cash to keep under your car ready to bounce off at the right moment.

So....long story short, this product seemed like a novel idea;

If it fits on the LR3 nice, I'll post a picture of it.

no, its not a plug, and i don't get anything for it....just figured someone else here may find it useful for the same reasons.

Toddjb122, This product does not fit the LR3 hitch receiver. The pegs that go into the sides that
fasten the safe do not line up with the holes in the receiver. I bought one because I go surfing quite a bit and needed a place for the key. I had to modify the Hitch Safe to get it to work, had to
drill new holes on the sides of the key holder, also had to get manufacturer to send me longer side pegs. Its a great product, they just didn't have us in mind when they designed
them. If you really want one you can make it work, it's just kind of a pain in the a$$.

Looks cool, but I have 2 questions:

Is it water proof... and what happens if it freezes up in the winter? for those of us in snow country?

DOH....bitter!!! Thanks for the reply duckdive, I read it a hair too late.

Never mind, skip this product for your LR3. I'm sending mine back because it fits like this...

Its too bad, as it is a very well made product. It actually almost fits in the hitch if you insert it from the rear, but that would make for crawling under to enter the combo quite a pain. Oh well.

Anyone else have a product idea for securing your key fob? (Like you, duckdive, I'm struggling to find a place to leave the key as well when I head out kitesurfing.) Have a good weekend!

Yes it does hold the key, as for being water proof, no. So if you got it wet and then let
it sit in freezing temperatures the tumblers probably would freeze up. The casing is not
completely water tight so the key would get wet. But would drain if submerged.
