When you say "cleaned" you just mean that you sprayed it with MAF sensor cleaner right? I bought a can of that stuff from pep boys and pulled out the sensor and sprayed it and didn't notice any difference.

I'm not a technician but cleaning your MAF sensor is worth a try and it's super easy. It's screwed to your intake hose and it has a wire harness plugged to it.. unscrew it (T20 bit I believe) and spray it with the sensor cleaner. The cleaner can be picked up at an automotive store like autozone or pep boys. I don't know if our vehicles are equipped with oxygen sensors but I would try that after the MAF sensor.

Yes we do have O2 sensors. The idle problem for some of you might be due to the O2 sensor. O2 sensors arent activated until the engine is up to operating temp, when the problem ceases. Just guessing

I can totally see how the trans fluid temp would change the idle speed. Working on CAT iron and being familiar with the power trains of their off-road trucks, with what sounds to be a similar system, it's feasible.

Keeping in mind that these vehicles are built to perform in very harsh climates (cold and hot). The viscosity of the tranny fluid could very greatly. Fluctuations in engine idle speed would allow smoother engagement of the clutch packs and torque converter. Once the trans has reached a steady operating temp the idle control will smooth out. Having a low level would cause the trans fluid temp sensor to pick up abnormal readings causing an erratic idle.

I'm not saying this is how it works, but I can relate it to a similar system. The CAT equipment would hold you in 1st gear until the tranny warmed up. Sure, with the LR3 that sounds a little over engineered. It's also not your average car in capability and weight.
