Interior light flashing

I've been having some lighting issues. Cleaned the contacts in the turn signal switch, which fixed most of them, except my high beams won't come on..the bulbs are good as they work to flash oncoming cars, just won't come on when clicked into position. Also, my courtesy lights flash a pattern when any door is opened and then go off. Does this pattern mean something and if so, is there a list of what various patterns indicate?

Year, mileage, any recent work (including changing out the radio)?

Year: '96, 140000 more or less, the only recent work I've done recently was to clean the contacts on the turn signal switch. I also failed to mention that the cd changer quit working at the same time.

Sounds to me like there is a short in the wiring somewhere... I have never heard of a flashing pattern for the lights.
