Jack won't lift

Newbie here.. Again.. The jack on my Range Rover HSE won't lift. I'm looking at the pictures and one of them indicates oil and the other indicates the pressure screw there at the base. I have put the pressure screw in all the way in and try jacking the jack up but it doesn't go up, or it goes up a little but won't hold any weight. What's going on? Is it defective, or does it need to have some oil added?

If it is the latter, how does one add oil, and what type of oil is needed? Thank you very much. Sorry for the multiple topic posts, the vehicle has a few problems but it is certainly worth posting on the forum. Plus I have searched and not found a topic addressing this..

sounds like the jack is bad, it happens... go to your favorite tool shop and buy a new jack.

If it's broke I feel I should at least see what the salvage yards are charging for a RR original OEM jack.

Nothing wrong with that option, but the original equipment Jacks on Land Rovers are not the best in my opinion. Mine worked the last time I need it, but the first time it doesn't I will replace with a better option.

Don't waste your money on another Rover jack, go buy a good one from Sears or a good tool outlet.

Should I surmise from these responses that none of your jacks are working either?
