I will be buying a new Jack. The one I have was my dad's (from the early seventies) and it is old and not so trustworthy as it once was. It would be a shame to have the Rover fall on me (I can think of a million other things I would rather have on top of me ...).

I own a hi-lift but that is more for on "the trail" fixing rather than changing out my brake pads or swapping my springs. I am heading to Sears to tomorrow to check them out. I would prefer to spend under 200.00 (if possible). Any thoughts or suggestions? I REALLY want a Snap-On Jack but as of now that is out of my price range. However something similar would be nice. Thanks gentlemen for your help.

Just get set from your local autoparts store - jack and two stands. Will cost you like 30-50$ Try to pick up model with highest possible lift.

While quality tools are indeed important - i dont see spending hundreds on jack.. If you like to go fancy - check out sams club - they have good wide michelin with rubber pad on lifting thingy for about 58$ to me recollection. Then again you can make same rubber pud yourself anytime

THANKS Serg. That is what I was thinking too. I already have some good Jack Stands .. I found a Jack from Sears for like $49.99. Or I might try Harbor Freight. Does it matter about how many tons it can hold??

Only matters if the tonage it can hold is less than your Rover.

Yeah, you need (I'd say) a 3 1/2 or 4 ton capacity, since Henry is 6000lbs empty...

I am looking at a Craftsman 1 1/2 Ton Aluminum Jack with a 3000lb. lifting capacity. It says speedy lift design.. Cha-Ching. AND it comes with a free creeper TOOLS ARE COOL....

Melissa - answer is no. You need at least 2 1/2 tons one to be safe.

Well thing is - Disco is something like 4.7K lb. So its static weight and you want to have some slack in there just in case. While surely entire vehicle weight shouldnt ever appear on jack under normal conditions (part of weight supported by either wheels or resting on stands & etc) - its pays to be safe
