I have heard Land Rovers are expensive because either you are pouring money into the MSRP on a brand new one or you are pouring into fixing an old one. Comments? I am looking for something that can carry a bunch of things and people on some adventures and have fun in once we get there.

Also, it seems like a bunch of people here to not daily drive their Land Rovers. A few have even more or less that they have another car for days the LR decides it doesn't want to work. Is this characteristic of the brand? I only ask these questions because I like to know what I am getting into before I get into it.

There are two types of drivers out there....Land Rover Owners and everyone else. Either you accept that fact that you are buying the most capable off the shelf luxury offroad vehicle with its issues, and you love it...or you don't. I knew up front that my LR3 was not the most economical, that when I bought it that I would never own another LR after owning a Disco II, and that it was not any Land Rover ever made up to that point.

I haven't looked back, and knowing that my truck takes more care than a conventional SUV that only drives on the road, I gladly pay the extra money to keep it maintained. It has never let me down in country, and now with 110k miles, I look for many more miles ahead. It is not an economical vehicle, so if economy is your motivation, don't do it. But if you want a vehicle to take you to breathtaking scenery and have your head spinning because you can't believe it just took you there, then the LR3 is the vehicle for you...or the Sport, or the LR4. There is great DNA in the heart of every LR vehicle today, and now the technology is your friend...at a cost.

Adding too what has already been said... I have seen people spend more money on Jeeps, Fords, Chevy's and even Honda's then I have spent on my LR in the 8 years I have owned it. I will admit that 90% of my LR driving now is off road or Winter only, but this is because I drive way too much to keep putting fuel in my Land Rover.... I bought my Mini for fuel economy and daily driving, of course in my 4 months of owning my Mini I have put over 9300 miles on it...

My Disco doesn't mind being my winter/off road vehicle, but I do have to spend a little to keep it going because I do drive it hard off road and things wear out. Only been stranded once and that was due to the S-belt breaking.
