I just bought a 2006 LR3 HSE white on tan with 28,000. Love it so far.

I stumbled upon this forum with two concerns in mind...

1. Can I disable the "can't input data while driving" nav thing...annoying.

(10 minutes later - thread found)

I diabled this in my Subie STI - it has made all the difference...

2. My windshield or sunroof leaks.

(5 minutes later - thread found)

We'll see what kind of red carpet my local Rover dealer will lay out for my first service request, I'm under factory warranty till March 2010.

Either we all think alike, have the same dang questions or this is a great forum...I'll go with the forum.

Thanks and good luck with your Rovers (seems like we need it).

Good work and welcome! It's a pretty friendly crew here, with a fair number of off-road enthusiasts (careful if you ask about 22" rims!)...

BTW, to date, our LR3 has been flawless (a nice change from our previous Rover).

Next on your list will be tires. Its been answered quite thoroughly also. Summary: Anything but the stock Goodyear HP Wranglers.

Look forward to seeing your photos soon, welcome to LR3 ownership! Do you intend get the other half of your car payment's value? (by off roading with it)

I live in CT. Off roading is strictly forbidden (only if you get caught). I did go out with the CT Jeep Club one day and within 1/2 hour the DEP gave all 20 of us tresspassing tickets.

I do plan on taking the LR3 with two canoes on her roof and towing 4 more on a Boy Scout 10 day canoe trip in The North Maine Woods. The same place where the show American Loggers is filmed. I may encounter slight needs for the off road capabilities.

I'm just hoping that on day 10 she'll start. No worries about 22s here. I've been a Rover fan since about 1993 (I was 16 then) and a buddy had a 1969 88" - I 'settled' for an LR3 that is now the mom-mobile.

Since I only have until 3/2010 on the factory warranty, I want to learn about the "things to get done pronto." Sounds like the sunroof drains are a high priority. My wife took a left turn yesterday and was splashed...she lovingly described it as a "refreshing surprise" - got to love her!

Other than the tires having lots of road noise, what other items would you all peg as "high priority" ?

I suppose if you are really concerned you could look at a dual battery setup. For what it's worth our battery is on the "weaker" side now (intermittent HDC failures when running the system test on start up), though it's more obvious in colder temperatures. We did leave it outside in the snow at the airport for 10 days and she started up just fine (I was nervous).

Colloquially it would seem that most issue are more prevalent in the '05s and early 06s - the only one that really requires a dealership that I can think of is:

Some vehicles seem to have a bit of difficulty finding 1st or 2nd, or perhaps hesitating when jumping into gear; this seems to be cured by a software update at the dealership - we haven't personally experienced this issue (mid 2006 build date).

I believe that Mustbeaudi put together a list of TSBs a few months back - might be worthwhile checking them out, though obvious quite a few may not affect your given vehicle.

Enjoy - looks like a fun trip!

Thanks for the input. That link to the dual battery set up didn't work - and I'd certainly be interested in something like that...

I technically don't even own the vehicle yet. I'm still waiting for the title to be mailed from the dealer so I haven't made an appointment with my local Rover dealer. I'll do that once I'm off the dealer plate and registered in CT.

I just want to get a good relationship going out of the gate with them...the sunroof thing shouldn't be a surprise from what I'm seeing here.

Link fixed for ya - I'm thinking of this myself, but more to run accessories when the vehicle is off. The only downside that I can see is that I'd lose the ability to have a nice small compressor for airing up again - given the very limited beach use it's probably a worthwhile trade off...
