Key Fob Issue

My 03 Disco has the Key Fob to automatically open the doors. It doesn't work...since Ive had it Ive had to open it manually. The light comes on the key and blinks when I push the button, but nothing opens or happens. Is this the key, or the car? Is there a way for me to check this myself? Just checking to see if anyone else has had this problem before I head to the dealer...again!

Sound like either a dead battery, or you may need to visit the dealer...
