Hi folks,

Long time lurker here, I have learned a lot, enough to almost push me over the edge. My wife and I are about to pull the trigger on a 2011 LR4 HSE with the cold climate package in Ipanema Sand and Almond interior. I just wanted to gauge people's opinions of the LR4s body roll while cornering. I took a test drive of an LR4 and felt that at speed a quick lane change could lead to a lot of body roll, almost an uncomfortable amount. My biggest worry of course would be loosing control while making an emergency move at speed on the highway. My other concern is my wife getting car sick while navigating twisty roads.

greatly appreciate any thoughts.

thanks

I am personally very surprised at how well the LR4 handles, and that's coming from experiences with some amazingly well handling cars. Have you considered a Range Rover Sport? That vehicle is all Land Rover with some amazing handling characteristics. BTW, my wife gets car sickness and she hasn't complained of feeling that way in the LR4, and she even sits in the back with the baby. I also drive more carefully since I have a baby now, I kind of cruise around like a grandpa now.

Dude I totally drive like grandpa too! its those damn kids I tell ya. Even my wife nags me about stopping for yellow lights.

Anyway I have been driving a 2000 RR for 8 years and never worried about its handling characteristics. My mom's got the RR Sport supercharged and yeah its fast and handles brilliantly. But I got one kid and another on the way, so I really want a seven seater and frankly the RR Sport is really small on the inside.

When I first picked up my '11 lux, I thought it had more body roll than I would like. After having it for a few months now and learned how it handles, its not that bad.

I had an 08 range rover sport and I dont see much of a difference with my 2010 LR4. Maybe the new RRS handles better than the older one I dont know. The roll has not been a problem for me or my wife who often sits in the 2nd row with the baby.
As per space inside, it is no contest. I have 3 kids and everything fits in LR4 (I mean luggage and kids). RRS had a much smaller trunk and less shoulder/head room.

IMHO, the LR4 handles pretty well for it's size and stature. Obviously it is not going to handle like a sedan or sports car, but it handles better than a lot of other SUVs out there. The body roll hasnt been an issue for me, but then again I don't drive like a race car driver. If you want a sportier LR you should go for the RRS, but you will sacrifice space and the third row seat. If you don't have kids, and handling is that important to you, you should go for the RRS

Didn't I read somewhere in the promotional stuff for Land Rover that the LR$ had some type of active body midigation? I keep looking for it but can't seem to find it.

Every once ina awhile I will go into a turn and feel it roll, but it never feels unsettled to me. After the intital roll, it tracks around the corner just as it should. Nobody ever complains about it, even when up in the Black Hills last summer and the mountains of Colorado.

I moved to a 11 HSE from a 2007 Pathfinder. The Pathfinder had a much more pronounced body roll.
