There is an excellent article on mileage in latest Car and Driver. But basically, it all depends on your right foot. I still think that getting a replacement car because of mileage is silly - I hope the service manager took the car out for 200 to 300 miles and drove it himself.
Anyway, if you drive like a grandma - you will get great mileage. If you do not, you will not. Try it yourself, set cruise at 55, and reset the computer. Then do the same at 75. Tell me what happens.
