Disco II blows top gasket

Greetings,

My name is Sivu and has just relocated to Pretoria, South Africa, six months ago. My Disco II, TD5 (1999) is in for repairs. It tested positive for a gasket leak two weeks before I was going on holiday in the Wild Coast (eastern shores of south africa), it was a great disappointment as the landy is always part of the holidays...the trip continued but on my wife's beetle. needless to say that we did not enjoy as we would have.

anyway what i wanted to know is how does a top gasket blow in landies without the temp gauge going up? The drive in the car was superb...i can't tell you when it blew, i only realise at the gas station when i looked underneath the car and saw coolant leak.

i wait in anticipation for your responses

Sivu

Welcome to the forum.... First keep in mind the TD5 will normally run hotter then say a petrol model... but even still the temps will only get noticeably hot when you have leaked too much coolant out of the system.

So it is possible you caught the issue either right after it happened or real close to the time.
