It's been interesting so far. The LR4 is EXTREMELY quiet compared to our past cars (Olds Silhouette Van and various gas misers). Fantastic ride on our beach trip which was mostly highway. 17.5 mpg calculated by topping off the tank and dividing by mileage. So not bad. I have a feeling that after the initial 1,000 mile break-in period - after which I get the rings seated nicely I should pick up an mpg or two on the highway.
Interesting that the LR4 owners manual doesn't discuss an "initial break-in period". Every car I've ever owned has, and I'm not going to treat this aluminum engine any differently. My only gremlin so far is the "automatic wiper" function. It plain just doesn't work. We've experienced a good deal of rain, and it won't budge a millimeter. Supposedly the ability to use the setting for either manual selection of delay setting or Automatic sensor is/can be set by the dealer. It comes from the factory set for Auto. I called the dealer and he couldn't figure out over the phone what was wrong. Kinda looks to me like some of the adhesive used to mount the rear view mirror has squeezed out into the sensor area. No biggie really... it's under warranty.
The final piece of gremlin was when we lifted the third row seats up for the first time. In the floor underneath the seats lay a "plug" of some sort. Orange and Black. I'll take a photo and post here when I'm back from vacation. Some kind of electrical plug that wasn't connected on either end. It's a two way female (bothsides) with a pop in locking mount. Looks brand new. Hopefully it just fell out of a Solihull's workers pocket during assembly!
Overall my wife and kids and I LOVE the LR4. Beautiful, sturdy, and I love the "feel" of it's steering system. When compared to other SUV's in this price range (Ford Explorer/ Buick Enclave/ Volvo XC60/etc) the Land Rover simply blows them away. Especially on re-sell value. We're 400 miles into ownership and she is wonderful.
