So I changed the oil in my Disco today and I noticed the textured paint on my Fram Easygrip oil filter was bubbling up from the heat.

I've been using these filters on several different cars ( one is a 62 Sunbeam Alpine I take on 700 mile desert ralleys) for a few years now and I've never seen anything like this before.

Is it possible that my oil is getting that hot and irrepairable damage is not happening (happened) in my engine?

I have plenty of bright green coolant and my fan spins fine and I get no temp or oil warnings.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Eric

I dunno, I changed the oil today and dented the filter when I grabbed ahold of it to remove it...maybe those filters are getting cheaper and cheaper? :hmpf:
