I think I have a problem code someone here could help me with.
Code is 1178. maximum positive mass air flow correction fault, seems it is running too rich... any true gear heads wanna help me decide if I need an O2 sensor or an expensive trip to the dealership???
Best Regards,
Charlie

Woah - - do don't anything crazy like going to the damn dealership or anything... Take a deep breath. this is completely fixable yourself.

Need to determine if this is a MAF issue or an o2 sensor issue. Please provide a little backup as to how the truck is currently running. Any hesitations? Poor, or more poor than average mpg? Milage? Year of truck?

- edit - oh yah, and has anything been recently repaired or have you removed any engine component recently?

How about a little more detail as far as the Land Rover... What year is it... how many miles does it have.. last tune up (i.e. plugs, wires, air filter)

Any other info about maintenance will help.

Mass Air Flow (MAF) cleaner

The Family Handyman, April 2007

Recommendation is to use "CRC Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner" on the MAF everytime the air filter is changed. By their testing, it seems to be the only thing that worked...available at CarQuest, Advance, and O'Reilly auto part warehouses for about $7.

Incidentally, WD-40, Brake Cleaner, Carb Cleaner, Snot, and type-O blood will not clean a MAF:)
