Hi, does anybody knows how easy is to check the oil presure? Could low oil presure make a taping noise?

a clogged pick up tube or oil pump going bad will cause upper end tapping, but the clogged tube is normally the issue.

Thanks, Joey. Is the pick up tube at the oil pan? I **** the truck to shop and they told me it could be air in the lifters, that i just need to drive the truck and it will go away, have you ever here that?

As Joey instructed me, you have to drop the oil pan and clean out the tube and the wire strainer. Also while you're in there, scrape out all of the sludge too.

Dirty job but you'll hear the difference immediately.

Another easier way would be to do an Oil System Flush What this entails is to drain 1 QT of oil from the system and add a can (1 QT) of oil system flush such as the one sold by Amsoil ($10 IIRC). Turn on the truck and let it idle for about 20 minutes.

DO NOT DRIVE THE TRUCK, let it idle!!!!!!

Open the oil drain plug and drain out the oil oil. Note the amount of sludge that is drained. Refill the truck with fresh oil and filter. For those trucks that are older you may want to repeate the above sequence again.

Since some of the old oil is still in the engine, run it on idle for about 10 minutes and drain again. Refill with fresh quality oil and filter.

Any major brand of synthetic oil can be used and should be used. Synthetic oil cleans out the oil system better and suspends the dirt particles so the filter can trap it. Sometimes it is better to change the filter 1/2 way between oil changes to keep it clean.

Thankyou guys. Jaak my disco is a 2003 SE-7 aswell, have you run in to this problem? I have 70000 miles on it. Do you know what it should be the oil pressure reading? I have a friend who is going to check it for me tomorrow. Am I hurting the engine by driving the truck with the tapping noise going on? Sorry that I have to many questions... Thanks again.

Jeremy ... I only have 43,000 KMs on the clock. Mine still purrs like new.

It's hard to say what the tapping noise is and whether it is related to the oil or not. Could be an exhaust gasket leak as well? If the dealer put it in writing that it needs to be driven .... get out of jail free card!!!.

Don't know about your warrenty, but mine covers everything for the first 4 years including routine maintenance which is free. Try going to another shop.
