Ok I found out how to put the code into my Eurovox radio so I could drown out the funny whirring noise coming from the transmission. The procedure is as follows.
The Eurovox 7479 unit has a six digit release code. All six digits are between 1 and 6.
Using the channel preselection buttons on the front of the unit, the digits in the code represent the buttons on the radio. For example if the code is 255631 then use the number in the code like a phone number and the buttons on the radio like the numbers on a phone. Therefore to put this code in the radio press button 2 then button 5 (twice) button 6 button 3 and then button 1. The display will have counted up to 6 for the times the buttons have been pressed. If you have the correct code your radio will come on and you can then spend the next half an hour or so programming in your favorite stations.
The instructions in the owners manual refer you to the alarm release code card and the instructions on the card refer you to the owners manual, the haines manual I bought referred you back to the owners manual and no-where is this procedure written down in full to make it an easy task. The solution is simple and quite logical in hind-sight but when you are sitting in the car with no idea and only 3 tries before the radio locks you out it can be a bit frustrating

Wow... glad to hear you found the solution. I knew I didn't have a clue on this one.
