1994 LR Disco I

Battery light came on...

got a new battery but later that night, battery light still on, lights went dim, lost power. Tried to get pulled of the side of the road, but could not get out of park. Charged the battery, jumped it and got it into drive.

Is this my alternator? Or is my transmission stuck????

I checked prices for new alternators online and found some aroun $190.

I was about to get rid of this car because i could still get $1,900 trade in value. I love the car, but inherited it with so many problems. I am not sure I can afford to keep it, not to mention I do not have $3,000 saved for a new transmission. Oh yeah, I put in a new starter several months back, if that helps.

A sign of a bad alternator is usually diming of the headlights and interior lights. I'd replace the alternator. If you keep driving it with a bad alternator your car will primarily run off of the battery and inevitably **** it. I would try to drive something else until you get the alternator replaced.

Agree with the bad alternator being your issue...

Careful of the alternator you purchase. I bought a lousy world parts alternator it charged but the tach didn't work. It did not charge to specs as well. The store gave me another one same issue. A Bosch alternator will cost $400 but it will work and it's lasted longer than the two oem's that lasted 45,000 miles each.
