I just got back from a week long trip to Moab to do some off-roading and had a blast. While driving on the interstate south out of Pueblo, Colorado, I experienced a loss of power while the vehicle was on cruise control. I was going up a slight incline and it felt as if the cruise control was turned off. I pushed on the accelorator and nothing happened. The speed kept decreasing even though I had the pedal to the floor. I had been going 75 - 80 MPH and could only go 55-60 up the hill. The transmission shifted to what seemed like 3rd gear, but wouldn't speed up. On the downhill side, I could get it up to speed (75-80), but it seemed sluggish. I then put the vehicle in manual shift mode and it seemed to do a little better, but with no sense of power. I stopped in Trinidad, Co and checked under the hood and everthing seemed all right. Decide to continue on my way and at one point had the check engine light flash yellow while trying to bring the vehicle above 60 mph. Backed off and the light went out. Didn't ever come on again that night. Made it to Amarillo, but couldn't pass any cars on the road because of the lack of power. The next day it seemed to drive ok on the highway.
While off-roading in Moab, did notice one time going up a steep incline that as I was giving the vehicle power under automatic mode and it just quit responding to my throtle input, as if I had let up on the throttle. The guy spotting me asked why I quit applying power as I was nearly over the top and I told him the power just shut down even though I hadn't let up on the throttle. Backed down and then tried the climb in manual shift mode and made the climb fine. He commented that several times it sounded as if the torque converter was racing back and forth trying to find a gear.
Never saw any fault lights or messages except for the one check engine light on the interstate. Makes we wonder if there is a limp mode incase the transmission gets too hot. Outside temp was in the 40-50 range so shouldn't have been too hot. Did drive 70-80 going from Grand Junction to Denver that morning, but didn't notice a loss of power. In some uphill spots along that portion of my trip, did notice that the engine speed sometimes was in the 4000 - 5000 range.
Will be taking it in later to have my 15,000 mile service and will have this looked at. Any thoughts or has anyone else experienced this?
Moab was a blast and my 2005 LR3 HSE was awsome. I do have HD rear end but say no problems with the rear locking diff.
