LR3 Proven to be worth the $ this winter!!!!

This winter has been crazy in Northern NJ (and tri-state area in general), snows every other day practically, ice everywhere, etc.

We got out car in August and LOVE it! Easily accomodates my wife, our two young sons (with car seats) and my teen daughter (and one or two of her friends usually), and always gets us to our destination nice and comfy no matter the weather conditions!!!! It was worth every penny as far as I'm concerned.

It's been a rough winter here in tri-state area with storm after storm after storm, but if they don't plow my street I could care less because my baby gets right through no problem at all. Icey roads, so what, haven't been a problem for me at all. And while all my neighbors are up early shoveling their cars out at 6:30am I get to sleep in and just vrooommm right out without lifting a finger. HAHAHAHA

Another noteworth thing is that the "high maintenance" reputation on rovers is totally untrue. Find a good local certified rover specialist in your area who does work for fraction of dealership price (for instance dealer wheel alignment is $265 vs. my specialist is $95) and utilize bputah to get the parts you need and wala you are in business at the same (if not cheaper) cost than most other cheapy charlie car!! And the warranty is upstanding, they replaced my differential and other parts for free.

I've a very satisfied customer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :hello:

Sweet...don't get cocky driving in the ice. The LR3 is very competent but you still need to respect the weather conditions. Terrain Response sets you up for success but doesn't drive the car for you.

If you really think the LR3 is not a high-maintenance rig or more expensive than average to own, you may be still in the new owner bliss stage. You just got a new differential!!! Hello...good thing you are under warranty.

Don't get me wrong, I love mine. ...I'm just realistic about cost of ownership.

Stop trying to pierce my optomistic bubble Houm!!

In interests of full disclosure, not only have I had my read diff replaced, but also my compressor, power/cigar lighter tray and battery replaced under warranty. I just purchased new tires for the truck (previous owner bought new ones at 20,000 and now I'm at 40,555 and while there is tread left I want new ones just to be safe and the car seemingly burns through tires from what I read on the boards so that is ok) and I've had my sparkplugs replaced, throttle body cleaned, fuel injector system/lines cleaned, new wipers and new cabin filter installed in the past 6 months I've owned the car (all of which was at my discretion and not necessarily "needed").

Grand Out-of-Pocket Cost total for me = $1200 ($700 of which was the tires alone).

My biggest complaint is that the car was in the shop for a total of about 6 days getting all the warranty repairs done.

I'm whistling dixie until Bradley (the name my wife has given our LR3) lets me down! I plan on purchasing extended warranty coverage over the summer so I really can't see how this car is not a good bang for your buck all things considered.

P.S. If you have a relationship with the LR dealer by you in WA, how much would they charge for extended warranty? And would that warranty be useable at the LR dealer by me in NJ if I were to purchase it (and would they even sell one to me being that they can't inspect the car)? Thx

Whistle away, bro. ...I was just being frank that they do cost $. Hell mine is in the shop right now! BTW, the LR3 chews through crappy tires! I've gotten about 60k on my Michelin Synchrones and they look good for another 10k!

Not sure on the extended warranty costs; there are threads on this board that cover that though...

Enjoy, man. It's a great rig.

From others I thought the Synchrones were crappy.

Egriz, I sure hope they do. $700 seemed a middle level respectabe price based on all the research (see chart below) I did. I went with the Toyo Proxies.....

Well, I'm not sure I saw anything so conclusive on the Synchrones. They are not great in wet snow/slush, but the wear has been outstanding.
