I own a base model 2010 LR4 and it has a rattle noise like something is loose whenever I hit a speedbump, pothole, etc when going over 15 mph. I have taken the car to the dealer several times and they cannot figure it out....right now they are saying its just how the car is but I refuse to take that as an answer. The dealer has acknowledged the fact that there is a rattle. I want to know if there is anyone else with a base model LR4 that either has this issue or can test it out. Note: The LR4 HSE does not do it as the dealer I took it to tested it out on that model. The reason why they have not tested on another base model is because they do not have any others. I'm really losing my patience with this issue and hope someone out there has some advice.

We have a 2010 HSE Lux with about 5500 miles on it now. Was just thinking the other day how solid it is. No rattles, and only muted thuds over cracks, potholes, etc. Our outgoing X5 was a rattle trap. Same kind of issue you're talking about. I always thought there was something loose in the rear suspension, and the dealer insisted there was nothing wrong, but their service loaner (same vehicle but less equipped) did not make any noise remotely close to ours. Even the service tech I test drove our vehicle with admitted he heard the rattle / vibration, but could not isolate where it was coming from. In the end, we just gave up and got used to it. It was a leased vehicle and we knew it was a "short timer" so we put it out of sight, and out of mind.

Good luck to you!

Funny, almost all BMWs made in US (X5, Z4, soon to be X3), at the SC Spartenburg plant, have had quality issues... especially rattle-box issues. It's funny, because I'm a long-time BMW owner and avoid any models built in the US (nothing against US manufacturing, I support it), but for BMW to claim the quality is up to par with their German and South African plants are just plain lying. And charging the premium you'd pay in imported from Germany. Anyway, I think the X5 is a bit of a street goer... nothing too special.
