Removing valve cover bolts D2

I don't seem to have the correct sockets, I tried both metric and SAE, but mine are 6 point, do I need 12 point? They could be torx? 7mm too small, 8mm too big on the 6pt sockets.

12 point tends to work better... most items are metric

It took a 12pt, 5/16" socket with 1/4" drive and a 6" extension. A 3/8" drive socket is too fat to line up properly -- it hits the valve cover. Unbelieveable.
