Hi everyone

I am in the process of purchasing a 1995 Discovery V8i ES automatic to use here in Zambia while working as a helicopter pilot. I would like to find where the vehicle was assembled and if you can find out where it has been registered. If anyone can help, please post a reply. The chassis number is SALLJR-MM3TA165617.

Regards
John

Assembly part is easy.. they have all been assembled in Solihull England as far as where it was registered, that is a lot harder. Since it is in Africa, not even sure how to track that down.

Thank you for your reply. I forgot to mention that I am importing it from Japan and it is still on its way. It is cheaper than buying a used one here in Zambia. I have done further research and found a table explaining the different digits in the chassis or VIN number. The last letter (A) before the serial number tells me what you have said, that it was assembled in Solihull. Everything else except for one letter matches the vehicle. That letter is the 6th letter denoting the chassis type. In my case it is an R, which according to the table, is a 110" wheelbase Defender with a 24V system! As far as I know, no Discovery ever had a 110" wheelbase or a 24V system! The table mentions that an A denotes a Japanese spec 100" Discovery. It could be possible that the A has been incorrectly written down as an R.

Back to my original query. I do not know if it was first registered in Japan, the UK or elsewhere. Is it possible to find out? Once again the vehicle is a 1995 (1996 MY) Discovery V8i ES automatic, chassis number SALLJR-MM3TA165617.

Just a suggestion, but how about sending an email to LR. They may very well be able to give you full history as well as maintenance history if you ask politely and provide them with some proof that you have actually purchased the vehicle.
